RAJSHAHI, Feb 27, 2026 (BSS)- Snow-white blossoms of moringa tree, locally known as sajney/ drumstick, are spreading a sense of serenity and charm across Rajshahi city.
The delicate branches are nearly bending under the weight of the flowers, while the trees themselves seem to shed leaves in tender balance to maintain stability.
At the onset of spring, clusters of small, fragrant white and pale-yellow moringa flowers bloom in abundance.
No longer confined to rural landscapes, their beauty now enchants almost every corner of Rajshahi metropolis.
Highly nutritious and rich in medicinal properties, moringa flowers are packed with vitamins A and C, calcium, potassium, and antioxidants.
Regular consumption boosts immunity, reduces inflammation, helps control diabetes, and alleviates colds, coughs, and high blood pressure, say nutritionists.
Across the Rajshahi region, branches of moringa trees are laden with white blossoms. From a distance, it appears as though white clouds are hanging from the trees.
The flowering season spans the Bengali months of Magh and Falgun. This year, the abundance of blossoms has raised farmers’ hopes for a bumper harvest.
Field visits to various areas of Rajshahi city show that many trees are so densely covered in flowers that their leaves are barely visible. According to locals, the volume of blossoms this year is significantly higher compared to previous years.
Sources from the Rajshahi District Department of Agricultural Extension report that in 2024-2025 fiscal year, moringa was cultivated on 321 hectares of land in the district, producing 3,755 metric tons of sticks. However, in the 2025–26 fiscal year, total cultivation declined to 201 hectares with projected yielding of 2,254 metric tons.
Agricultural officials noted that Rajshahi’s soil and climate are highly suitable for moringa cultivation, as why the trees are commonly found in home gardens, along roadsides, and field boundaries.
M.A. Mannan, Agriculture Officer of Paba Upazila, said, “This year, the number of blossoms on the trees is much higher. If weather conditions remain favorable, there is strong potential for a good harvest.
At the beginning of the season, moringa pods fetch high prices in the market. As supply increases, prices will become more affordable. This will ensure fair prices for farmers while benefiting consumers as well, he said.
Moringa, scientifically known as Moringa oleifera, is recognized worldwide as a “superfood” due to its exceptional nutritional value.
Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr. S.I.M. Raziul Karim told BSS, “Moringa is a highly nutritious food. Its pods, leaves, and flowers are all edible, and each part offers distinct health benefits.”
According to agricultural authorities and health experts, regular consumption of moringa as part of a balanced diet can play an effective role in ensuring nutrition and protecting health.
Trees laden with flowers and fruits therefore represent not only natural beauty but also promising prospects for rural economic growth and family nutrition.
