PATUAKHALI, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - A woman drowned in a pond at Daspara village under Bauphal upazila of the district on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Maryam Begum, 30, mother of two children and resident of the same village.

Maryam Begum accidentally fell into a nearby pond while collecting water in a bucket around 7 pm. Neighbours later rescued her from the pond in an unconscious condition and rushed her to the Bauphal Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Atiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Bauphal Police Station, confirmed the matter.
