Gokulpur community clinic sets example in providing health services

RANGPUR, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS)- Gokulpur Community Clinic (GCC) located in Haridebpur union of Sadar upazila in Rangpur has set a glaring example of providing health services to rural people in the last 11 years.

The GCC has earned the confidence of local people by providing treatments of common ailments with cost-free medicines. 

About 40 to 50 people of all ages from adjoining villages are daily visiting the clinic to get treatments and free medicines.

Along with providing treatments of common ailments and medicines, well-trained Community Health Care Provider (CHCP) Nazma Khatun also conducts safe deliveries of pregnant mothers successfully there during the period.

Talking to BSS, Nazma Khatun, also a Community Skilled Birth Attendant (CSBA) recently said that the number of ailing people increases due to proximity of the clinic with provision of free medicines for common ailments. 

"Some 15,000 patients are receiving health services and medicines there free of cost annually with around 40 to 50 patients a day on an average since 2015," said Nazma. 

In addition to conducting safe deliveries, Nazma is providing healthcare for common ailments to the general public, including under-five babies, children, adolescents, men and women at the clinic.

"Currently, 18 pregnant mothers are undergoing regular checkups at the clinic," she said and hoped that they would deliver babies safely there in the near future. 

Last week, Nazma conducted a normal delivery of pregnant mother Chandona Rani, 28, of village Aloyakuri after conducting a safe delivery of pregnant mother Rokeya Pervin, 24, of village Mulapara recently. 

"Chandona and Rokeya gave birth to a male and a female baby safely at the clinic respectively," a smiling Nazma said.

After carrying out a regular checkup of first time pregnant mother Hamida Khatun, 20, of village Mandalpara at GCC, Nazma said she provided medicines and suggestions for safe pregnancy to the patient.

She also checked up pregnant mothers Nur Jahan, 22, and Jahanara Begum, 27, of Mandalpara Gokulpur village, Kakoli, 26, of Dhanipara village and Mollika Rani, 22, of Aloyakuri village and provided medicines and suggested them for conducting regular checkups. 

Talking to BSS at GCC on Thursday, Hosne Ara, 16, Zinnia Alam, 24, Nur Uddin, 38, of Mandalpara village, Lutfa, 50, of Chawrapara village, Konika Rani, 28 and Lutfa Begum, 18, of Aloyakuri village said they came there for treatment of their ailments.

Nazma checked up on them, provided medicines, explained proper dosages and advised them accordingly when some 32 other patients, including children, adolescents, men and women, were waiting outside the clinic this noon. 

Talking to BSS outside GCC, mothers Rahima, 28, and Zannati, 29, of Chawrapara village said that they gave birth to their respective sons Saimum and Zisan there safely a few years back and came there for treatments of their sons suffering from fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Shahin Sultana told BSS that a trained CHCP, one Health Assistant and one Family Welfare Assistant, all are trained CSBAs, are working at each of all 311 community clinics in the district.

The clinics are providing services on common diseases, maternal and newborn healthcare, childhood illnesses, reproductive health, family planning, health and nutrition education, micro-nutrient supplementation and establishing referral linkages with higher facilities. 

Besides, the CHCPs are referring autistic children and children with special needs to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for specialised treatment to flourish their latent talents. 

"Like many other community clinics, GCC has set a shining example in providing healthcare at the doorstep of people in the rural areas of Haridebpur union under Sadar upazila in Rangpur," she added.
