MEHERPUR, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Army arrested a man along with weapons during a raid in Meherpur's Mujibnagar upazila this morning.

The arrested person was identified as Billal Hossain alias Kata, 42, son of late Madar Ali Biswas of Jatarpur village. A patrol team from the Meherpur Army Camp carried out the operation.

According to army sources, the raid was conducted at Billal Hossain's house under the leadership of Major M. A. N. Rowshan Alam. During the operation, army personnel recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine and two rounds of live ammunition from the house.

Following the arrest, Billal Hossain was handed over to Mujibnagar Police Station along with the recovered weapons and ammunition.

Mujibnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Islam said the arrested man is accused of involvement in various criminal activities, including smuggling, money laundering, online betting and casino operations, and extortion.

He confirmed that the recovered firearm was a 7.65 mm pistol made in the USA. A case has been filed in this connection.
