SIRAJGANJ, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in the sensational murder of a college student who was hacked to death in broad daylight in Sirajganj town last month.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sakin, son of Moti Sheikh of Dhanbandhi Mohalla in the Sirajganj municipal area.
He was arrested yesterday afternoon from the Kaliakair area under Savar Police Station in Dhaka district, according to a press release issued by RAB-12 headquarters this noon.
According to RAB sources, the murder took place on December 28 when college student Abdur Rahman Riyad was sitting inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Mujib Road in Sirajganj town. At that time, a group of 30 to 35 youths, armed with sharp weapons, attacked him and hacked him to death on the spot in front of bystanders.
Md Sakin had been absconding since the incident.
Following the incident, the victim's father Rezaul Karim filed a murder case with Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, naming Md Sakin as the prime accused. The case also includes the names of 11 other individuals along with 20 to 25 unidentified persons.
RAB officials said necessary legal procedures against the arrested accused are now underway.
