Farmer killed in wild elephant attack in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - A 65-year old farmer was killed after being 
trampled by a wild elephant in Sribardi upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Ahmed Ali, son of late Kanai Sheikh of 
Malakucha village under Ranishimul union of the upazila. 

The incident occurred around 9:00 am in Nepali Bita area of the Balijhuri 
Range.

According to family sources, Ahmed Ali left his home in the morning to cut 
grass for his cattle. A herd of wild elephants suddenly attacked him while he 
was cutting grass in the forest-adjacent area. 

The sexagenarian farmer was trampled by an elephant, sustaining severe 
injuries as his chest was crushed, the sources added.

Local people rushed to the spot, rescued him and took him to the Sribardi 
Upazila Health Complex. However, the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon 
arrival, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Anas Ali of Sribardi Police Station confirmed.

Balijhuri Range Officer Md Sumon Mia said the Forest Department would provide 
financial assistance to the victim's family as per government rules.
