Over 400 blankets distributed among cold-stricken people in Chitalmari

BAGERHAT, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - As the severity of winter continues to rise, the Chitalmari Upazila administration has distributed more than 400 blankets among poor and cold-stricken people, including orphans, in Chitalmari upazila of the district.

The distribution programme was held on Monday afternoon at the upazila premises as part of the government's ongoing humanitarian assistance initiative.

Blankets were provided to several orphanages, madrasas and needy individuals, including Baraguni Medinatul Ulum Orphanage, Santoshpur Battola Noorani Kebatia Orphanage, Uttar Lodarkul Talimul Quran Hafiziya Madrasa and Orphanage, Rahmatpur Hemayetia Orphanage, Paranpur Dobatola Islamia Orphanage, Shamsul Ulum Khademul Islam Ghola Orphanage, and Baraguni Jamalul Quran Naharunnesa Mahila Madrasa.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Sajjad Hossain formally handed over the blankets. Speaking on the occasion, he said it is the moral and social responsibility of the government to stand beside the underprivileged people of society.

"Like every year, the government is carrying out humanitarian and social development activities this year as well. The distribution of winter clothes is a continuous part of these efforts," he said, adding that such initiatives would continue in the future to improve the quality of life of neglected sections of society.

He also urged affluent members of society to come forward to help alleviate the suffering of cold-stricken people.

Among others present at the programme were Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mithun Moitra, Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Ferdous Ansari, Upazila Women's Affairs Officer Md. Hafizur Rahman, and officials of the upazila administration.

The distribution of winter clothes brought much-needed relief and smiles to the faces of the poor and helpless beneficiaries.
