NOAKHALI, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) – The Village Defence Party (VDP) Day was celebrated in the district on Monday with colorful arrangements and various programmes.

The day’s programme began at 11:00 am when Ansar and Village Defence Force (VDP) District Commandant Md. Ashrafuzzaman formally inaugurated the celebrations by releasing balloons at the district Ansar and VDP office premises.

Following the inauguration, a colorful rally was brought out under the leadership of the district commandant.  The rally paraded through important roads of the district town and concluded at the District Ansar and VDP office premises.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held with the participation of Ansar and VDP members.  Addressing the meeting, District Commandant Md. Ashrafuzzaman said that members of the force are being provided with various trainings, including modern weapons training, to enable them to effectively respond to any disaster situation in the country.

He said Ansar and VDP members are always prepared through training and are often the first to respond in times of crisis, working tirelessly to address challenges faced by the country and the nation.

He urged the members to properly discharge their assigned duties while upholding the tradition, honor and dignity of the force.

The commandant also expressed hope that Ansar and VDP members would remain more active at the grassroots level in the future and play an important role in the upcoming national elections, as they have done in the past.

Among others, Sadar Upazila Ansar VDP Officer Md. Hammad Bin Hossain, Sonaimuri Upazila Ansar VDP Officer Md. Abul Bashir, Begumganj Upazila Ansar VDP Officer Md. Faisal Mizan, Companiganj Upazila Ansar VDP Officer Firoza Khatun, and over 150 Ansar and VDP members from different upazilas were present at the event.

It may be mentioned that the Village Defence Party was established on this day in 1976 with the motto, “We are everywhere in peace, order, development and security.”
