PIROJPUR, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 11 candidates have been declared valid out of 16 contestants after scrutiny of nomination papers for three parliamentary constituencies here in the district.
The scrutiny was conducted on Saturday morning at the Shaheed Abdur Razzak-Saif-Mizan Memorial Meeting Room of the Deputy Commissioner's office. The nomination papers of five candidates were initially declared invalid.
However, Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Abu Sayeed said that the nominations of two candidates from the Pirojpur-3 constituency may be considered valid subject to the submission of correct and complete documents.
District Election Officer Md Abdul Mannan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahmudur Rahman Mamun, and other officials of the Deputy Commissioner's office were present during the scrutiny process.
During the review, the candidatures of independent candidates Mahmud Hossain and Mostafizur Rahman from Pirojpur-2 constituency, and independent candidate Tohiduzzaman from Pirojpur-3 constituency were declared invalid.
The District Returning Officer also said that decisions regarding the nomination papers of candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami and the Jatiya Party in the Pirojpur-3 constituency would be taken after they submit the required documents.
Out of the total 16 candidates contesting in the three constituencies of the district, 11 have so far been declared valid, while three nominations have been cancelled and two remain under review.
