RAJSHAHI, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - Thirty-eight candidates have submitted their nomination papers for six constituencies in the district for the upcoming parliamentary election and the nominations of 19 of those have been declared valid.
According to the affidavits, 92 percent of the valid candidates are educated.
In Rajshahi-1 constituency, BNP-nominated Sharif Uddin is a retired Major General, Jamaat-nominated Professor Mujibur Rahman was a college teacher and AB Party's Abdur Rahman has a graduation degree.
In Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency, BNP's Mizanur Rahman Minu B.Com, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Dr Mohammad Jahangir, MBBS and AB Party's Sayeed Noman, LLB.
In Rajshahi-3 constituency, BNP's Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MSS, Jamaat backed Abul Kalam Azad, MA, and Jatiya Party's Afzal Hossain, BA.
In the Rajshahi-4 constituency, two nomination papers were declared valid. They are BNP-nominated D M Ziaur Rahman, MA, and Jamaat's Dr Abdul Bari, MBBS.
In the Rajshahi-5 constituency, two nominations were declared valid; they are BNP's Professor Nazrul Islam, MA, and Jamaat's Maulana Manzur Rahman, MA.
Three of the four submitted nominations were declared valid in the Rajshahi-6 constituency. The valid candidates are BNP's Abu Sayed Chand, SSC, two others, Nazmul Haque, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abdus Salam Suruj.
As per the election schedule, the candidates, whose nominations were cancelled in scrutiny, can submit appeals against the returning officer's decision.
Till January 20, the candidates can withdraw their nomination papers and election symbols will be allocated on January 21.
