GAIBANDHA, Jan 04, 2026 (BSS) - At the end of the nomination scrutiny process for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, a total of 16 candidates' nomination papers were rejected across five parliamentary constituencies in Gaibandha.
The scrutiny activity was conducted in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC), who is also the returning officer of the election, on Friday and Saturday.
Returning officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman said a total of 45 candidates submitted their nomination papers in five constituencies of the district on time.
After scrutiny, the nomination papers of 16 candidates were declared invalid, while those of 29 candidates were declared valid.
Office sources said that of 16 nominations, five nominations had been declared invalid from Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj), three from Gaibandha-2 (Gaibandha Sadar), three from Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur), one from Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), and four from Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Phulchhari) of the district.
Returning officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman also stated that the nomination papers had been declared invalid due to errors in the nomination papers and inconsistencies in the necessary supporting documents.
The candidates whose nomination papers had been declared invalid could appeal in due time, he added.
