19 nominations declared valid, 19 cancelled in Rajshahi constituencies

RAJSHAHI, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - After scrutiny of nomination papers for six parliamentary constituencies in Rajshahi district, the nominations of 19 candidates have been declared valid, while those of another 19 candidates have been cancelled.

Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Afia Akhtar disclosed the information today at the Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner's office.

She said nomination papers, affidavits and loan-related documents submitted by the candidates were examined during the scrutiny process.

In Rajshahi-1 constituency, six candidates submitted nomination papers. Of them, three nominations were declared valid. The valid candidates are BNP-nominated Sharif Uddin, Jamaat-nominated Professor Mujibur Rahman and AB Party's Abdur Rahman. The remaining three nominations were cancelled.

In Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency, the nominations of six candidates were found valid, while three were cancelled. The valid candidates are BNP's Mizanur Rahman Minu, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Dr Mohammad Jahangir, AB Party's Sayeed Noman, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh Labour Party's Mesbaul Islam and Nagorik Oikya's Shamsul Alam.

In Rajshahi-3 constituency, out of seven candidates, three nominations were declared valid and four were cancelled. The valid candidates are BNP's Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, Jamaat-backed Abul Kalam Azad and Jatiya Party's Afzal Hossain.

In Rajshahi-4 constituency, two nominations out of four were declared valid, while two were cancelled. The valid candidates are BNP-nominated D M Ziaur Rahman and Jamaat's Dr Abdul Bari.

In Rajshahi-5 constituency, eight candidates submitted nomination papers. Of them, two nominations were declared valid and six were cancelled. The valid candidates are BNP's Professor Nazrul Islam and Jamaat's Maulana Manzur Rahman.

In Rajshahi-6 constituency, three out of four candidates had their nominations declared valid, while one was cancelled. The valid candidates are BNP's Abu Sayed Chand, Jamaat's Nazmul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Abdus Salam Suruj.

Talking to BSS, the returning officer said the nominations of 19 candidates from the six constituencies were accepted as they fulfilled all required documents and legal conditions. The nominations of 19 others were cancelled due to incomplete information and defective documents.

An appeal can be filed within the timeframe set by the Election Commission, said an official.

Meanwhile, candidates have begun intensifying campaign activities and communication with voters. Election Commission sources said the final list of candidates will be published after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations.
