BANDARBAN, Jan 3, 2025 (BSS) - A man was trampled to death by wild elephant at Baishari union under Naikhongchhari upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
The victim, 30-year-old Abdus Salam, son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of the same area, was a local tubewell mechanic.
According to eyewitness, the elephant entered the locality around 6.30 am, sparking curiosity among the residents. As the locals came out to see the wild animal, a dog began barking, disturbing the elephant. In a sudden act of aggression, the elephant started chasing the people. Abdus Salam, attempting to flee, tripped and fell down unfortunately. The elephant trampled him, causing serious injuries. He died on the spot.
Baishari Police Investigation Center In-Charge (IC) Md. Anwarul Islam confirmed the incident, stating that they visited the scene upon receiving the report. "It has been initially confirmed that the person died as a result of a wild elephant attack," he said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Baten Mridha of Naikhongchhari Police Station assured that necessary legal actions are being taken.
