JHENAIDAH, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - The nomination papers of four candidates have been cancelled for the Jhenaidah-1 and Jhenaidah-4 constituencies ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections in the district.
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud made the announcement after scrutinizing the nominations today. The verification process was held from morning to noon at the auditorium of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Alam Biswas, the candidate of Islami Andolan Bangladesh for the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency, had his nomination papers cancelled due to being a loan defaulter.
In the Jhenaidah-4 (Kaliganj-Sadar partial) constituency, the nomination papers of three independent candidates—Obaidul Haque Russell, Mir Aminul Islam and Murshida Khatun—were declared invalid.
Murshida Khatun, the wife of former BNP MP Shahiduzzaman Beltu, had already applied for withdrawal of her nomination last Thursday. The three independent candidates failed to comply with Election Commission rules, which require signatures and voter information from at least one percent of their constituencies to be included in their affidavits.
A total of 27 nomination papers were submitted across the four parliamentary constituencies in Jhenaidah. After scrutiny, the nominations of four candidates were declared invalid in accordance with the Election Commission rules.
