KHULNA, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) disclosed that the sensational triple murder case in which two children Fatiha, 7, and Mustakim, 8, and their grandmother Mohitunnesa, 53, were brutally killed and was executed under a contract of TK one lakh .
At a press briefing at the KMP headquarters on Saturday, Additional Police Commissioner Abu Raihan Md Saleh said France expatriate Md Shamim Sheikh alias Shamim Ahmed, a cousin of the victims’ father Shefar Ahmed, mastermind of the killings. A total of seven people took part in the killing mission.
Police have so far arrested three suspects, including Shamim, who was detained at Dhaka airport on November 27 while attempting to flee to France.
He later gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before a court.
The police official said Shamim had a long-standing dispute with his cousin Shefar Ahmed over 1.69 acres of ancestral land at Bhabhanipur village under Rupsha’s Aichgati union. The case is under trial in court.
Shamim, previously an accused in a 2003 arms case, returned from France in 2017, was arrested again in the same case, and got bail 7-8 months ago.
“While in jail, Shamim developed links with members of a criminal group. After his release, he hired them for TK one lakh to kill his rival Shefar Ahmed and his family,” Saleh said.
According to police, around 1–1.30 pm on November 16, Shamim and six others entered Shefar Ahmed’s residence at Darbesh Molla lane (Goli) in Labanchora. One of the assailants climbed over the wall and opened the pocket gate, allowing the rest to enter.
They then bludgeoned the two children and their grandmother to death using bricks and later, kept the bodies inside a poultry shed.
The group waited inside the house to kill Shefar and his wife Rubi Akter as well, but fled when they failed to locate the couple.
The arrested accomplices are - Tariqul Islam Tarek, 26, son of Azharul Islam Arju of Mollapara, who is implicated in a previous drug case, and
Tafsir Hawlader, 20, son of Babul Hawlader of Jinnahpara, who faces two cases of theft and mugging.
Shamim admitted in court that he paid the hired killers after the murders were executed, the police official added.
Responding to questions, Saleh said land documents and gold ornaments missing from the house have not yet been recovered.
He added that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.
The victims’ parents Shefar Ahmed and Rubi Akter, were present at the press briefing.
