CHATTOGRAM, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Two people were killed and another injured in a road accident at Laliarhat Mistrighata area in Hathazari upazila of the district early today.

The deceased were identified as Abidul Hasan, 35, youngest son of the late Nur Ahmed Chowdhury, and his nephew Iftekhar Rahat, 27, son of Mohammad Yusuf, a former teacher of Hathazari Parbati Model Government High School. All of them were residents of Alipur village under Hathazari Municipality.

Police said Abidul fell ill on Saturday night and was taken to the emergency department of Hathazari Upazila Health Complex, from where he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. 

After receiving treatment, Abidul and Rahat were returning home when a vehicle hit their CNG-run autorickshaw at around 6 am while they were crossing the Laliarhat area. The autorickshaw (Chatt Metto-Th 13-8224) overturned on impact.

Rahat died on the spot, while Abidul succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Another passenger, Rashed Chowdhury, was injured and is undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Mohammad Ullah, Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Highway Police Station confirmed the accident.

He said police rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information. The CNG-run autorickshaw involved in the accident was seized, while the bodies were sent to the morgue. He added that necessary legal procedures were underway.
