SHARIATPUR, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life-
term imprisonment for killing his wife at Senerchar Madbarkandi under Zajira 
upazila of the district in 2007.

District and Sessions Judge Md. Solaiman delivered the verdict on Sunday 
afternoon.

The convict is Ilias Sikder, a resident of the same area. He is absconding. 

According to prosecution, on November 30, 2007, Ilias Sikder brutally killed 
his second wife Aleya Begum with the help of his first wife Ratna Begum and 
buried her body in the veranda of her house. 

Later, police recovered the body and filed a murder case against three 
people, including her husband Ilias Sikder, Ratna Begum and Ilias's brother 
Sekandar Sikder with Zajira Police Station.

After recording the testimonies of a total of seven witnesses in this case, 
the accused Ilias Sikder was found guilty under Section 302 and sentenced to 
life imprisonment.

The other two accused in the case were acquitted as they were found innocent, 
said public prosecutor of the court Advocate Moniruzzaman Khan Dipu.
