Huge smuggled goods worth Tk 1.43 cr seized in Sylhet

SYLHET, Sept 27, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth Taka 1.43 crore during separate drives from different areas in Sylhet border, said a press release of Sylhet BGB-48 Battalion this morning.

A man was also arrested in this connection.

The BGB conducted the drives on Friday and Saturday at Sonarhat, Utma, Sreepur, Sangram, Bichnakandi, Banglabazar, Sonalichela borders areas, the release said.

During the drives, a large quantity of Indian cumin, fuchka, Kitkat chocolate, sugar, liquor, illegal beer and liquor were seized and a boat used for illegally extracting sand was confiscated. 

In addition, a special patrol team of the battalion headquarters conducted an operation in Khagail area under Companiganj upazila and with the help of the army seized 2 trucks used for transporting smuggled goods including Indian cumin, fuchka, and Oreo biscuits. 

The estimated value of the goods seized in the operation is Taka 1.43 crore. 

BGB-48 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Haque confirmed this information and said that the BGB's operational activities and intelligence activities to maintain security at the border, prevent smuggling and drug trafficking will continue in future.
