
BRAHMANBARIA, Dec 3, 2021 (BSS) - The 30th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 13th National Disabled Day-2021 was observed in the district today as elsewhere in the country and the globe with a call for ensuring participation of the people with disabilities to build a sustainable post-COVID-19 World.
This year's theme of the day is "Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 World".
Marking the day, a discussion was held at the Sur Somrat Aluddin Khan Music Hall this morning at the initiative of the District Administration and Social Services Department.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hayat Ud Daula Khan addressed it as the chief guest with Deputy Director, of the District Social Services Department Abdul Qayum in the chair.
The chief guest said the persons with disabilities would have to be developed as worthy citizens of the country through providing them with all facilities including healthcare, education and employment.
Municipal Mayor Mrs. Nair Kabir, Civil Surgeon of the district Dr. Md. Ekram Ullah, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mozammel Hossain Reza, among others, were present on the occasion.
Later, wheelchairs were provided to 5 persons with disabilities, 22 persons to Taka 10,000 each and 80 persons to Taka 50,000 each.
