CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Sept 25, 2025 (BSS) - Import and export activities at Sonamasjid Land Port will remain suspended for eight consecutive days from tomorrow for the celebration of the Durga Puja festival.

According to port authorities, cross-border trade will be halted from September 26 to October 3, encompassing weekly holidays and official government closures. Regular operations are scheduled to resume on 4 October.

Despite the suspension of trade, immigration services for visa-approved travelers will continue uninterrupted movement through the Sonamasjid route, officials confirmed.

Kamal Khan, Operations Manager of Panama Port Link Limited, which oversees the port's management, said a notice issued by customs on Wednesday outlined the suspension of import-export activities on 1 and 2 October due to government holidays.

In a corresponding move, the Mahadipur Exporters' Association of India, located opposite the Sonamasjid port, also announced closure of operations from September 27 to October 2 for Durga Puja.

Additionally, weekly holidays on September 26 and October 3 further extend the non-operational period to eight days.

Mostafizur Rahman, convener of the C&F Agents Association at Sonamasjid Land Port, said that internal port functions such as loading, unloading, transportation, and warehousing will continue during the closure.

Customs offices will remain operational except on designated government holidays, he said, adding that passenger movement through both Sonamasjid and Mahadipur immigration checkpoints will proceed as usual throughout the festive period.
