NATORE, Sept 24, 2025 (BSS) – Over 100 sacks of snails and clams were released into Chalanbil Beel today to maintain the wetland’s biodiversity.

Earlier, Natore Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Majharul Islam conducted a drive in the Ningoin and Taligram areas and seized the snails and clams.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Shahadat Hasan, General Secretary of the environmental organization Chalan Beel Biodiversity Protection Committee Saiful Islam, and police personnel from Singra Thana were present during the drive.

UNO Majharul Islam said, "A section of traders is engaged in the indiscriminate collection of snails, clams, and crabs from Chalan Beel, which threatens its biodiversity and the survival of beneficial aquatic species."

He added that the administration and the fisheries department are working together to safeguard the beel’s ecological balance.
