CHATTOGRAM, August 22, 2025 (BSS) - Joint forces arrested top terrorist Shafiul Alam, also known as Prakash Shafi, 36, from the Sarafbhata area in Rangunia upazila today.
They seized a large quantity of illegal weapons and ammunition during the operation. Shafi, who is considered the second-in-command of the notorious terrorist group Ismail Bahini in the Sarafbhata area, had an arrest warrant issued against him for his involvement in various terrorist activities in the region.
Shafiul Alam is the son of Najer Prakash Kalabali and hailed from Pattalikul village in West Sarafbhata. The arrest of terrorist Shafi has brought relief among the locals. Police and army conducted a joint operation and apprehended him early on Friday, as confirmed by Sabbir Mohammad Selim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Rangunia Police Station.
He said that the joint forces raided Shafi's house based on secret information. Two single-barrel guns, 15 fresh cartridges, 16 shells, 12 used bullet heads, cartridge belts, country-made crackers, sharp weapons (knives, dhama da), and broken mobile phones were recovered in the operation.
During initial interrogation, Shafi admitted that he had stockpiled these weapons and explosives to create havoc and terror on the roads.
A case has been filed against top terrorist Shafi under the Arms and Explosives Act, and a court arrest warrant is out in two other previous cases, the OC said.
