Journalists' sensible role vital to ensure good governance: speakers

  RAJSHAHI, Nov 22, 2021 (BSS) - Speakers at a function here stressed the
need for effective and sensible role of journalists and other civil society
organizations (CSOs) members to develop life standard of marginalized people
by ensuring good governance in the society.

   Many media and civil society members are playing important role in
adopting policies to continue country's advancement, they opined.

  The observations came at a group discussion of a daylong 'Follow-up
Governance and Inclusion Workshop with Journalists and CSOs' at Hotel Warisan
in the city on Sunday.

   Counterpart International hosted the workshop under the Promoting Advocacy
and Rights (PAR) Project with financial support of USAID and FCDO.

   Fifteen journalists and five civil society members from Rajshahi and
Natore districts joined the workshop.

   Speakers said that the journalists and civil society members should come
forward and work together to raise the awareness at household and community
levels about the adverse consequences of drug abuse through social
mobilization.

   They can also play an important role in influencing local governments and
politicians to introduce effective policy and increase allocation of
resources to combat drug abuse, they added.

  Senior News Editor of Channel I Mir Masrur Zaman Rony spoke at the workshop
as resource person while PAR Project Advocacy Specialist Iffat Jarin and
Program Assistant Shormica Sharmin were present.

  Manager of Drug Abuse Resistance and Understanding- DARAU Project Subrata
Kumar Paul moderated the session besides welcoming the participants.

   Various issues related to good governance, role of media were featured in
the workshop.
