Seminar on improving quality of life of marginalized professionals held

NATORE, June 30, 2025 (BSS) - An awareness seminar on improving the quality of life of marginalized professional groups was held in the district today.

Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen was present as the chief guest at the seminar organized by the Department of Social Services at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room at 11.30. 

Presenting the main paper at the seminar, Assistant Director of the Department of Social Services Naogaon District Office Shamim Reza said that the traditional professions of rural Bangla like pottery, blacksmithing, bamboo-cane product manufacturers and or cobblers, which have been developed from generation to generation since ancient times, are on the verge of extinction today. 

Professionals associated with these profession, that are on the verge of extinction, are concerned about their profession. 

Ministry of Social Welfare has taken steps to modernize and diversity the products of the traditional marginalized professionals of the country.

The government has taken steps to improve the quality of life of marginalized professional groups by improving their skills, products and service quality.
 
Deputy Director the Department of Social Services Md. Mostafizur Rahman said that there are a total of 5,062 marginalized professional groups in the district, including blacksmiths, potters, barbers, bamboo and cane product manufacturers, brass and copper manufacturers, shoe repair and manufacturers, folk instrument makers, Nakshi Kantha makers, Shital Pati and Shatranji makers, and folk artists. 

Effective steps are being implemented to improve their quality of life, including providing training and materials.
