CHATTOGRAM, June 29, 2025 (BSS) - City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain announced that the construction work has begun to install 1,265 smart LED lights on 31.63 kilometers of roads in 10 wards of the city at a cost of Tk 18.76 crore.
He said that it was their commitment to build a city free of darkness for the safe and comfortable movement of the city dwellers.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain was inaugurating the smart LED light installation project by installing electric poles on Abdul Hamid Road in Ward No. 8, Sholakbahar on Sunday.
He said that these smart LED lights will be installed under two sub-projects titled 'Lighting Development Program (Region-1, Phase-1)' and 'Lighting Development Program (Region-5, Phase-1)' being implemented with the funding of the World Bank.
"We see the lighting system as the first step in transforming it into a smart city through this modern technology. It will not only increase safety, but also enhance beauty," he added.
Dr Shahdat said that the smart LED lights can be centrally controlled and monitored through a cloud server making it easier to turn the lights on or off, identify equipment faults and maintain them.
CCC Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman Sohel, Supervising Engineer (Electricity) Md. Jasim Uddin, Executive Engineer (Electricity) Shafqat Bin Amin, Assistant Engineer Sarwar Alam Khan, Project Lighting Coordinator, Anik Dasgupta, Fakhrul Islam, Rupak Chandra Das, Enamul Haque, Kamal Hossain and Salah Uddin Yusuf Majumder, among others, attended the function.
