Universal pension scheme is assurance of dignified life

RANGPUR, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Universal Pension Scheme is not just financial assistance, but it also ensures financial security in old age for every citizen of the country as an assurance of a dignified life. 
 
"This initiative is a guide to building an inclusive and compassionate society," said Rangpur divisional commissioner Md Shahidul Islam while addressing a workshop held in the city as the chief guest today.
 
The National Pension Authority jointly with Rangpur district administration organized this workshop on 'Universal Pension Scheme' at Rangpur Shilpokola Academy auditorium on the occasion of the Universal Pension Fair- 2025.
 
Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner inaugurated the day-long Universal Pension Fair- 2025 by cutting the ribbon and releasing colorful balloons at the nearby Rangpur Town Hall premises in the morning. 
 
Various commercial banks, NGOs, government organizations, mobile financial services (bKash and Rocket), Union Digital Centers and other stakeholders set up their respective stalls at the fair premises. 

After the inauguration of the fair, the chief guest visited the stalls of various service providers set up in the fair premises. 

Joint Secretary of the Finance Division Dr Md Ferdous Alam delivered the keynote presentation, discussed various aspects of the Universal Pension Scheme and answered questions of the participants in the open discussion at the workshop. 
 
The chief guest said that the Universal Pension Scheme is very important for the citizens of Bangladesh. 
 
"The government has launched the Universal Pension Scheme with the aim of building a just, non-discriminatory and humane state to ensure financial security as an assurance of a dignified life in old age for every citizen," he said.
 
He urged all concerned to widely publicize the Universal Pension Scheme. 
 
With Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal in the chair, Superintendent of Police BM Ashraf Ullah Taher from Rangpur Range DIG office and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ramiz Alam addressed the workshop as special guests. 
 
Government officials, political leaders, people from different classes and professions and journalists were present at the event.
