KHULNA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here today stressed the need to ensure fundamental rights, including education and rehabilitation, for children involved in hazardous work.
They also emphasized the need to create employment opportunities for jobless youths from families where children are engaged in child labour.
They made the remarks at a meeting marking World Child Labour Prevention Day held at the deputy commissioner's conference room.
Highlighting that the percentage of child labourers will decrease if their families are financially solvent, the speakers said action-oriented educational training opportunities should be created for the youths of child labourers' families.
The rehabilitation process would be easier if the youths in such families receive proper and effective training.
The Khulna district administration and MFOI jointly organized the meeting.
Speaking as the chief guest, Additional District Magistrate Diponkar Das said a permanent solution should be found to prevent child labour, rather than relying on temporary measures.
"Information about children engaged in child labour should be collected through a survey targeting specific areas and sectors," he added.
Chaired by Santaz Billah, Deputy General Manager of the Directorate of Mill Factory and Organisations Inspection (MFOI), the meeting was also addressed by Md Hafez Ahmed Mozumder, Director of the Directorate of Labour in Khulna Division; Md Shahenur Rahman, Assistant General Manager of MFOI; and Mahbub Alam, Assistant Director of the Directorate of Labour.
Earlier, a rally was brought out from the Collectorate Building in the city.
