KHULNA, June 13, 2025 (BSS)- Excitement has spread in Mehidy Hasan Miraz's home district of Khulna when Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed him as the captain of the ODI cricket team.
 
People of Miraz's home town immediately brought out a joyous procession on Thursday night after the announcement of the BCB.

The joyous rally was organised from the Kashipur Cricket Academy in Khalishpur, where Miraz's cricketing journey began. 

The rally started from the academy and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the Khalishpur area. Local young cricketers, sports enthusiasts, fans and supporters of all ages participated in the rally.

The rally was filled with slogans, "Our pride, Miraz Miraz", "Long live captain Miraz". Some expressed their excitement with Miraz's picture in their hands while some with placards in their hands.
 
Miraz's childhood coach Al Mahmud said: "Miraz is a very qualified cricketer to be the captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at present. Age, experience, and cricketing sense all combined makes this a timely decision. I firmly believe that the Bangladesh ODI team will reach a new height under his leadership."

Sajal, a local cricketer of Khalishpur, said: "Miraj is the pride of our Khulna. He is an inspiration to thousands of youngsters not only on the field but also off the field. The young cricketers of the area will be inspired to make Miraz as captain."

Miraz has been a regular member of the national cricket team since his debut in 2016. With his consistent performances, the all-rounder has already become a symbol of Bangladesh cricket's reliability.

The love shown by the people of Khulna towards Miraz at the start of his new role is not only a recognition of his achievements, but also a reflection of optimism for the future of cricket in the country.
