NARAIL, June 4, 2025 (BSS) - Two children drowned in a pond near their house 
at Atlia village under Chachuri union in Kalia upazila of the district this 
morning.

The deceased were identified as 20-month old Riyan Sheikh, son of Reaz Sheikh 
and 21-month old Rahad Sheikh, son of a Saudi expatriate Shimul alias Robi 
Sheikh, a resident of the village. Both the deceased are cousins.

Chachuri Union Chairman Melzar Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed the incident.

Morium Begum, mother of Riyan, said the duo drowned in a pond at about 9:30 
am while they were playing on the bank of the water body near their house. 

Later, the family members with the help of locals rescued their floating 
bodies from the pond around 11 am and took those to Narail Sadar Hospital 
where on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kalia Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said: "We have 
learned that two children drowned in Atlia village. Legal proceedings were 
taken in this regard."
