COX'S BAZAR, May 24, 2025 (BSS) - A 50-kilogram Irrawaddy dolphin that washed ashore on Inani Beach in Cox's Bazar was successfully released back into the sea after about two hours on Friday evening.

The dolphin got stuck on the rocks at Inani Beach around 6:00 pm. Initially, tourists attempted to drag it to the sandy area. "Upon receiving the information, we rushed to the spot and rescued the dolphin. Preliminary observations showed signs of injury on its head and belly," said Mohammad Belal, a beach worker in charge at the district administration.

"We tried to release it into the water several times, but it couldn't swim back to the sea. Later, we informed the forest department," he added.

Md. Nurul Islam, Divisional Officer of Cox's Bazar South Forest Department, said, "Initially, injuries were observed on the dolphin's head and belly, which might have been caused by hitting the rocks."

With the help of beach workers, forest department staff released the dolphin back into the sea around 8:30 pm.
