Law and order committee meeting held in Khulna

KHULNA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) - Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Saiful Islam here today asked the authorities concerned to beef up monitoring for setting up and smooth operation of cattle markets in Khulna during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

He came up with the instruction while presiding over the monthly law and order committee meeting for May, held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) office. 

“Vigilance is needed to prevent the spread of counterfeit currency, snatching, and to prevent the forced relocation of livestock instead of specific cattle markets,” he said.

He ordered to take similar measures as taken on the last Eid-ul-Fitr to prevent black marketing of train and bus tickets. He also stressed the need for remaining alert so that drug-related crimes do not disrupt the social environment in Khulna city.

Additional Superintendent of Police S.M. Al-Beruni informed the meeting that regular patrolling and special checkpoints are being maintained in different areas under the jurisdiction of the district police.
 
A special cybercrime unit of the police is working round the clock to combat cybercrime, he said, adding that with the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, efforts will be made to prevent deterioration of the law and order situation related to the management of cattle markets.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Humayun Kabir said that several drug dealers have been arrested and drugs, weapons have been seized in recent operations.
 
In addition, several drug hotspots have been closed during operations. To raise public awareness against drugs, community meetings are being organized in each ward of the city corporation area, he added. 

Deputy Director of the District Department of Narcotics Control, Md Mizanur Rahman, reported that in April, the district office and police jointly conducted 1,563 anti-drug operations and a total of 127 cases were filed involving 146 accused.

Additional District Magistrate Dipankar Dash made a presentation on the law and order situation in Khulna city and district, saying 15 cases were filed in April.
