GOPALGANJ, May 8, 2025 (BSS) – The traditional ‘Bronze Jewellery’ of Muksudpur upazila of the district has been recognised as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bangladesh.

It has become the second product of the district to achieve this recognition. Earlier, Gopalganj's ‘Rasgolla’ received GI product recognition.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter to BSS on Thursday (May 8).

According to the World Intellectual Property Organisation, GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.

Deputy commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman on April 30 received the GI certificate on behalf of the district in a ceremony organised marking the World Intellectual Property Day in Dhaka.

On March 12, 2024, the then Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam applied to the Bangladesh Ministry of Industries for inclusion the “Bronze Jewellery” as the second GI product.

After receiving the certificate, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman said the ‘Bronze Jewellery’ of Jallirpar has brought recognition throughout the country. It has a reputation throughout the country.

It will help improving the employment and living standards of craftsmen involved in making bronze jewellery. The bronze industry-based economy will be more dynamic, he said.
