GAIBANDHA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - A daylong campaign would be held to identify
obstetric fistula patients in Gobindaganj upazila of the district to bring
them under treatment facilities of government hospitals to build fistula-free
upazila immediately.

The campaign would be conducted in all 68 community clinics of the upazila
through active participation of all staff of the clinics and its management
teams under the direct supervision of health officials of Upazila Health
Complex.

The field-level staff of LAMB Hospital funded by UNFPA Bangladesh would also
facilitate the health department to conduct the campaign, said Md. Shariful
Islam Sharif, district facilitator of the LAMB.

After identification of obstetric fistula patients from the upazila, the
patients would be referred to either Rangpur Medical College and Hospital or
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for free treatment, he also
said.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Masudur Rahman told BSS that
concerted efforts are crucial to identify obstetric fistula patients in the
upazila.

All staff of the community clinics and its management teams have been asked
to attend the clinics timely and to identify the obstetric fistula patients
from the catchment areas of the clinics on priority basis to build a fistula-
free Gobindaganj upazila within a very short time, he added.
