SSC examinee succumbed to his injuries in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, May 2, 2025 (BSS) - An SSC examinee who was critically injured while trying to stop a clash between two rival groups in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila succumbed to his injuries five days after the incident.

The deceased, Rajon Shikder, 16, passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around noon today, according to his brother Russel Shikder.

The incident took place on the evening of April 27 in the Alinagar area under Paratali Union of Raipura upazila.

 Rajon, a student of Saidabad High School, was the son of Fazlu Miah from Alinagar of the area.

The victim’s family and locals said that after completing his SSC exam on the day of the incident, Rajon was playing carrom with friends at Alinagar Bazar intersection. At that time, a quarrel broke out between Jahangir of Madhyanagar and a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver from Bashgari area.

Rajon and some locals intervened to deescalate the situation and safely escorted the driver home.

Later that evening, in retaliation, Jahangir and his associates allegedly attacked a shop in Alinagar and severely beat Rajon with sticks, leaving him critically injured.

He was initially taken to a local health complex and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He underwent surgery on Thursday and was moved to the ICU, where he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

 Russel Shikder, victim's brother alleged, “The attackers brutally assaulted my brother and also vandalised and looted my mobile banking (bKash) shop.”

Prabir Kumar Gush, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Raipura Police Station said, “We have received information regarding the death of an SSC examinee. An investigation is underway. The family has informed us that they will soon file a complaint.”
