MANIKGANJ, April 30, 2025 (BSS) -The cultivation of Jute, the main cash crop of people of the district, is going on in full swing in all seven upazilas of the district, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said.
The DAE has set a target of cultivating Jute on 4,295 hectare of land with a production goal of 11,009 bales during the current season.
Of the total, Tosha variety will be cultivated on 3,553 hectares of land with a production target of 9,236 bales, while local variety will be grown on 712 hectares with a production target of 1,702 bales. Mesta will be cultivated on 20 hectares of land with a target of 47 bales and Kanaf will be grown on 10 hectares of land with a production goal of 25 bales.
The DAE office sources said about 3,040 hectares of land has already been brought under jute cultivated so far, adding that the cultivation is ongoing throughout the district.
Meanwhile, the government has already distributed quality jute seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs free of cost among 600 poor and marginal farmers as an incentive to boost production.
