RAJSHAHI, Oct 14, 2021 (BSS)- 'Crises Response Team (CRT)' of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) will play a pivotal role in combating terrorism, militancy, trafficking and peddling and addiction of drugs in the region in the days ahead.

   Police officials made this observation while inaugurating a seven-week long mentorship training course of CRT at RMP Police Lines conference hall in the city today.

  RMP organized the training in association with US Department of State Anti- Terrorism Assistance (ATA), US Ambassy, Dhaka.

  James O'dell, Fred Kolberg and George Vanderhoof from US Departertment of State Anti- Terrorism Assistance (ATA) attended the opening ceremony as trainers.

  RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique addressed the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. Additional Commissioners Suzayet Islam and Mazid Ali and Deputy Commissioners Rashidul Hassan and Saifuddin Shaheen were present on the occasion.

  Commissioner Kalam Siddique said there is no alternative to training for attaining competence. He urged the participants to take training with much importance so that they can deal with any crisis moment competently.   

  He said RMP formed the team around three years back with the main thrust of facing some major unruly and subversive activities and violence, including terrorism, militancy and drug-trafficking in the metropolis.

  The 24-member team has been formed in similarity with the squad of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) through time-fitting training.

  Earlier, they were also imparted training on how to conduct operations to arrest terrorists besides combating militancy in crisis moments with courage.
