One gets life-term in Dinajpur drug case

DINAJPUR, June 10, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for possessing 102 bottles of Phensidyl in a drug case in Rashidpur village under Fulbari upazila of the district in 2014.

Dinajpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2, Judge Shyam Sundar Roy delivered the verdict this afternoon.

The court also fined him Taka 15,000, in default, he will have to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.

The convict is Abdul Hai , 30, son of Mofiz Uddin, resident of Rashidpur village under Fulbari upazila of the district.

According to the details of the case, based on secret information, on March 19, 2014, the members of the Narcotics Control Directorate of Parbatipur Circle of Dinajpur district of the upazila conducted a drive at the house of accused Abdul Hai. During the raid, 102 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from that house. At the time of the raid, the accused Abdul Hai was absconding.

Narcotics Control Directorate filed a case against the accused at Phulbari Police Station that night.

Later, police submitted charge-sheet against him in the court.

After examining witnesses, the court found him guilty and handed down the punishment today.

Dinajpur Court Police Inspector AKM Liaquat Ali confirmed the matter.
