Election to 3 upazila parishads held peacefully in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, MAY 22, 2024 (BSS)-Election to three Upazila Parishads of the district was held peacefully yesterday through active participation of the voters and the concerned people.

The voting started at 8 am and continued till 4 pm without any break. After ending and counting the votes, results of the election were announced by the respective Upazila Nirbahi Officers at the evening.

In SadarUpazila, Aminur Zaman Ringku was unofficially declared as chairman (elect) of the parishad. Ringku bagged 54, 796 votes. His nearest candidate was Adv Istequr Rahman secured 48, 944 votes.

Rafiqul Islam Milan was unofficially declared as vice chairman (elect) of the parishad. Milan bagged 37,371 votes while his nearest candidate Shariful Islam Sanju got 28, 342 votes.

Morsheda Begum was unofficially declared as woman vice chairman of the upazila parishad. She bagged 99087 votes and her nearest candidate Shilpi Khatun got 15, 294 votes.

In Palashbari Upazila, AK Moksed Chowdhury Bidyuit, ForhadMondal and Anowara Begum were unofficially declared as chairman, vice chairman and female vice chairman (elect) of the upazila parishad respectively.

In the election, Moksed Chowdhury Bidyuit bagged 19, 595 votes and his nearest candidate Touhidul Islam got 18, 074 votes.

Farhad Mondal bagged 24,306 votes and his nearest candidate ASM Rafiqul Islam got 20, 784 votes and Anwara Begum bagged 21, 958 votes while her nearest candidate got 17, 867 votes.
In Gobindaganj upazila, Lecturer Sakil Ahmed Bulbul, Abdul Matin and Papiya Rani Das were unofficially declared as chairman, vice chairman and female vice chairman (elect) of the parishad.

In the election Bulbul bagged 91, 048 votes. His nearest candidate Abdul Latif Prodhan got 82045 votes while A Matin secured 65,963 votes and his nearest candidate Shariful Islam Taju got 57, 537 votes and Papiya Rani Das secured 45, 214 votes and her nearest candidate Umme Jahan Ringku got 34052 votes.

As local administrations adopted tight security measures, the voters went to the polling stations and cast their votes without any hassle. No untoward incidents took place in the elections during the voting hours.

District Election Officer Abdul Mottalib thanked the concerned authorities including voting officials, candidates and law enforcement agencies for holding the polls in the upazilas in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
