Independence Day celebrated in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, March 26, 2024 (BSS) - The 54th Independence and National Day was celebrated in the district today as elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner.

Marking the day, Manikganj district administration, Freedom Fighters, political parties, educational institutes, and various cultural and social organizations chalked out special programmes.

The programmes of the day started with 31 gun salutes early in the morning and hoisting of the national flags atop all government, semi-government and private buildings. Besides, floral wreaths were placed at the Martyred Freedom Fighters Memorial ('Shaheed Muktijoddha Smriti Stambha)' paying rich tribute to martyrs of the War of Liberation.

Deputy Commissioner Rahana Akther placed the floral wreath at the Martyred Freedom Fighters Memorial first. Later, SP Golam Azad Khan, Manikganj Zila Parishad Chairman also the President of Manikganj district Awami League Freedom fighter Advocate Golam Mohi Uddin and Chief Executive Officer Md. Suhrid Salehin, DDLG Shahina Parvin, Civil Surgeon Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan, District Awami League General Secretary, also the Public Prosecutor (PP) Freedom Fighter Advocate Abdus Salam and all departmental heads also placed floral wreaths.
 
A march-past of Police, Ansars and VDP, Fire Service and Civil Defence and BNCC were held at Shaheed Miraj-Tapon Stadium, where Deputy Commissioner Rahana Akther hoisted the national flag formally and took the salute.
 
Reception to the heroic Freedom Fighters and a discussion on historic leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were held at District Shilpakala Academy.
 
Besides, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples and other places of religious worship.
 
Friendly football matches, cricket, volleyball, kabaddi and indigenous games were held at Shaheed Miraz-Tapon stadium and screening of cinema on Liberation War was included in the programmes of the day.
 
The programmes of the day included supplying improved diets to inmates of hospitals and Jail and Government Shishu Paribar.
 
Awami League and its front organizations and other political parties and sociocultural organizations also observed the day through various programmes.
