Promoting institutional delivery to check child-mother mortality rate underscored

GAIBANDHA, DEC 10, 2023 (BSS) - Speakers at a function here today underscored the need for promoting institutional delivery instead of home delivery to check child and mother mortality rate.
 
"As home delivery is risky and vulnerable for both the newborn and the mother, there is no alternative to institutional delivery to prevent child and mother mortality rates", they also said.

They made the comments while addressing a half-yearly coordination meeting of Mamota Project being implemented by SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government organization, with the financial support of KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), in cooperation with Save the Children under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
 
The meeting was held at SKS Inn, an outskirt of the district town, this afternoon.
 
Rangpur divisional director of family planning department Dewan Morshed Kamal attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and deputy director of the department here Prosenjeet Pronoy Mishra spoke at the event as the special guest.
 
Presided over by deputy director of SKS Foundation Khandokar Zahid Sarwar, the function was also addressed, among others, by chairman of Ghagoa union parishad Aminuzzaman Ringku and journalist Sarker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman.
 
Earlier, senior manager of the project, Khaleda Habib, delivered an introductory speech and welcomed all to the function.
 
Then, a PowerPoint presentation was done by upazila coordinator Harun-or-Rashid.
The speakers in their speeches emphasized the need for continuing the project considering the welfare of the rural pregnant women.

Director of family planning, Rangpur division Dewan Morshed Kamal, in his speech, underlined the need for conducting awareness activity for pregnant mothers and their guardians and to discourage home delivery in a bid to bring down the child and mortality rate in the days to come to achieve sustainable development goals.
 
He also urged all to ensure zero home delivery anyhow in the project command areas through active participation of all quarters including public representatives and other stakeholders of society.
A good number of public representatives, staff of the project and the department, including journalists attended the function.
