GAIBANDHA, DEC 03, 2023 (BSS)-Speakers at a daylong function here today said the marriage registrars’ role is very crucial in preventing early marriage to build an early marriage free society.

“As the marriage registrars can play a very important role in registering marriages, they have a professional responsibility to prevent child marriage. They should come forward in this regard to build early marriage free society”, they said.

They made the observations while addressing a daylong training workshop for the marriage registrars working in the district at Gano Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a Gaibandha based non-government voluntary organization, located at Nashratpur area under Sadar upazila of the district.

GUK arranged the function for the marriage registrars on the occasion of campaign against gender-based violence in Gaibandha in cooperation with donor agency US Aid and WINROCK International.

Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Nargis Jahan, information officer Hridoy Mahmud Chayon, senior journalist KM Rezaul Haqque, Advocate Abul Kashem Yasbir and GUK officials Joya Prosad and Rokunuddoula addressed the function among others.

The speakers said due to early marriage the married children both boys and girls suffer various health related complexities that develop to build unhealthy nation.
In this context, they emphasized on building social movement to eliminate early marriage to have healthy and peaceful society.

A good number of journalists of print and electronic media took part in the program.
