Daylong haratal ignored in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 30, 2023 (BSS)-The day long haratal in Chattogram passed off without any impact in the port city and its adjacent upazilas of the district today.

Eyewitness said the BNP called hartal is being celebrated in Chattogram amid severe traffic jam. More than normal traffic it has been observed on every road in the city since morning, they added.

Public transports in the city were normal as usual but the long-distance traffic was also thin due to passenger shortage.

According to Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) control room sources, the hartal passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.

Pro-hartal processions and pickets were not seen in the city while huge contingents of police were deployed in all strategic points of the city, the source added.

Vehicular movement on the city streets was normal and all motorized transports including passenger buses, CNG Taxies, Tempos and private cars were seen plying on the streets.

A number of shops alongside the main streets, roads and by-lanes and shopping malls and posh markets remained open.

Members of law enforcing agencies were seen patrolling in different parts of the city and district.
All kinds of educational and business institutions, government and private offices, including banks and insurances, were on normal activities by opening at scheduled times.

Attendances in mills and factories including Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) were almost normal.
Railway control room sources said all scheduled trains to and from the port city left and arrived as per schedule.

All international flights at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport took off and landed according to the schedule, airport sources said.

Operational activities including loading and unloading of cargoes at ships inside the port went on in full swing but transportation of export-import goods to and from the port jetty was also normal, port secretary of Chattogram Omar Faruk, said.

Earlier, city Awami League held peace and development rallies and sit-in programs at 19 important places, but today no rally was seen anywhere along this route. It is known that as it is the last day of filing nomination papers for the 12th National elections, the party leaders and activists are busy gathering at the houses or electoral offices of the candidates in a festive atmosphere to show their support and are busy with election activities.
