Chapainawabganj court imprisoned two in two separate cases
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Nov 21, 2023 (BSS): Two separate courts of Chapainawabganj on Monday sentenced two persons to life-term imprisonment in two separate cases.
The convicted persons are- Badsha, 60, son of late Intaj Mondol of Lakkhipur Kamarpara under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila and Ebadul Hoque, 29, son of late Waji Uddin of Diar Manikchar under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district.
Senior Session Judge and also the Judge of Chapainawabganj Special Tribunal-1 Md. Adeeb Ali sentenced Badsha to life-term imprisonment and fined Tk. 50,000, in default, he would have to suffer another one year jail.
According to the prosecution story, members of RAB-5 arrested Badsha with 2,147 bottles of phensidyl syrup from a farm house at Dakkhin Charagram under Jhilim union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on October 25 in 2018.
On the same day, Sub-Inspector Anup Das of RAB-5 filed a case with Sadar police station against Badsha under Special Powers Act-1974.
Investigating officer (IO) of the case Sub-Inspector Rabbi Morsalin of RAB-5 submitted charge-sheet to the court against Badsha on June 13, 2019.
After hearing the witnesses and examining the papers, the court pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict yesterday.
On the other hand, Additional District Judge-1 of Chapainawabganj Md. Rabiul Islam sentenced one Ebadul Hoque to life-term imprisonment and fined him Tk. 10,000, in fault, he would have to suffer another three months jail for keeping heroin.
The court also acquitted another accused of the case as the charges brought against him were not proved.
According to the prosecution story, police of Nachole thana arrested Ebadul with 150 grams of heroin from Lakkhipur village under Nejampur union of Nachole upazila in Chapainawabganj district on May 5, 2016.
On the same day, Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam of Nachole thana filed a case against Ebadul with the police station.
The IO of the case Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of the same police station submitted charge-sheet to the court against two persons including Ebadul on October 25, 2016.
After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment in absence of the convict, the court sources said.
