CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Sept 28, 2023 (BSS) - A court here on Wednesday afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.

The court also fined convict M Palash, 25, son of Abdur Rashid of Kiranganj village under Shibganj upazila of the district, Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

Additional district and session Judge Md. Rabiul Islam pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict.

Another accused of the case Sadiqul, 45, was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proved.

According to the prosecution, police arrested Palash with 150 grams of heroin from Basantapur village under Shibganj upazila of the district on November 29, 2016 but Sadiqul fled away.

Sub-inspector Goutam Chandra Mali filed a case with Shibganj Police Station accusing the duo.

Investigating officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Shahidul Islam submitted charge-sheet against them to the court on January 12, 2017.

After a long hearing the court handed down the punishment.
