Two awarded death sentence in Jerin murder case in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, Sept 21, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two people to death in sensational Modinatul Kubra Jerin murder case in 2020 in Sadar upazila of the district.

Judge of Habiganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Sudipta Das handed down the verdict to Jakir Hossain, hailed from Dhal village in Sadar Upazila and Nur Hossain, an inhabitant at Patli village.

According to the prosecution on January 18 in 2020, SSC examinee Modinatul Kubra Jerin was going to her school boarded on a CNG-run auto rickshaw. Convicts Jakir and Nur Hossain took position in the CNG earlier. They barred Jerin getting down from the CNG. At one stage, Jerin jumped down from the auto rickshaw and got injured.

Local people admitted Jerin, an inhabitant at Dhal village, to Habiganj Sadar Hospital that referred her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where she died under treatment on January 19.

 Following her death, Jerin's father filed a case in 2020 and police held Jakir and Nur Hossain. Later, police pressed the charge sheet accusing the duo.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court gave the order in presence of Jakir Hossain. The court also fined each of the convicts Taka 50,000, said Public Prosecutor advocate Abul Hashem Molla.
