RAJSHAHI, Sept 7, 2023 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will transplant
12,312 saplings of different varieties trees and decorative plants on road
dividers in the preliminary stage of the current season.
Lankabangla Foundation donated the saplings to the city corporation for
transplantation on the road from Shahid AHM Kamruzzaman Crossing to
Shahmakhdum Airport for generating more greenery spaces together with
boosting forestry resources and protecting ecological balance.
Specific objective of the tree planting programme is to encourage everyone to
plant trees with the aim of greening the city of Rajshahi, increasing the
forest resources of the country and protecting the ecological balance.
Reelected Mayor of RCC AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by Lankabangla
Finance Managing Director Khaza Shahriar revealed this while inaugurating the
tree plantation programme at Postal Academy area today.
In phases, the tree plantation activities will be expanded and implemented to
the entire 8.5-kilometer roads.
Mayor Liton stressed the need for extensive tree plantation to improve
environment and biodiversity to make the region habitable for all.
Expansion of the country's forest area up to 25 percent of the total
landscape through extensive tree plantations will protect the country from
adverse impact of climate change.
Explaining various beneficial aspects of trees and homestead gardening in
human life, he urged all to plant at least three saplings on their homesteads
to help for maintaining environmental and ecological balance.
Liton urged all to plant fruit, forest and herbal saplings around their
respective homesteads or on any open space to save the region from the wrath
of any future natural catastrophe.
"We are urging all of your authorities of public and private entities
including educational institutions and installations to supplement the city
corporation's efforts of massive plantation," said the RCC Mayor Liton.
