CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 20, 2023 (BSS) - The government is distributing 2,067.93 metric tons of rice to 2,06,793 poor families in the district as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to assist them celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

"Distribution of the VGF rice under the Disaster Management Department to selected card holder beneficiary families with 10 kgs of rice each continues smoothly and will complete before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity across the district," said Additional deputy commissioner (general) of Chapainawabganj Ahmed Mahbub-ul-Islam.

On the occasion, Bholahat Upazila Parishad organised a distribution function at Bholahat sadar union parishad on Monday.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bholahat Upazila Umme Tabassum inaugurated the function as the chief guest through distributing 10 kgs of rice to each of 2,717 destitute families of the union.

A number of 2,717 destitute people in Bholahat sadar union, 2,650 people in Gohalbari union, 2,816 people in Daldali union and 1,694 people in Jambaria union would get the rice, the upazila parishad sources said.

The sources added that each of them is getting 10 kgs of rice.

According to the Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner's office sources, a total of 2,067.93 metric tons of rice has been allocated against 2,06,793 VGF cards in the district for Eid-ul-Azha this year.

Of them, 98.750 metric tons against 9,875 cards in Bholahat upazila, 338.020 metric tons against 33,802 cards in Gomostapur upazila, 174.880 metric tons against 17,488 cards in Nachole upazila, 548.490 metric tons against 54,849 cards in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila and 738.350 metric tons against 73,835 cards in Shibganj upazila, 46.210 metric tons against 4,621 cards in Chapainawabganj municipality, 46.210 metric tons against 4,621 cards in Shibganj municipality, 46.210 metric tons against 4,621 cards in Rohonpur municipality and 30.810 metric tons against 3,081 cards in Nachole municipality have been allocated.
 
Mahbub-ul-Islam said, like the previous festivals, the rice is being distributed against the VGF cards among the ultra poor, helpless and destitute families as the Prime Minister's Eid gift.
