RANGPUR, June 14, 2023 (BSS) - Despite achieving worthy success in the health sector, GO-NGO comprehensive efforts are still crucial to end malnutrition of children, adolescents, pregnant women, mothers and common people.
Officials and health experts viewed this in the closing and prize distribution function of the Nutrition Fair arranged marking the National Nutrition Week 2023 at the Public Library ground in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
The Civil Surgeon Office organised the function with assistance of the Directorate of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, UNICEF, World Health Organisation in observance of the week through various programs.
The week was observed aiming at creating public awareness about the importance of nutrition for building a healthier nation to enhance productivity for accelerating economic growth to further speed up national progress.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen attended the discussion and distributed prizes among winners of different competitions arranged marking the National Nutrition Week 2023 week as the chief guest.
With Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Kabir in the chair, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury attended the function as a special guest.
Dr Kabir discussed various government campaigns and programs being implemented to eliminate malnutrition and successes already achieved towards the direction on the way to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030 next.
"Distribution of essential drugs and vitamins like de-worming tablets, iron, folic acid and calcium tablets to pregnant women and Calcium and vitamin D to aged people and Vitamin A campaigns have commendably contributed to achieving success in the nutrition sector," he said.
He also discussed the necessity of breastfeeding, selecting and consuming nutritious foodstuffs to ensure nutrition of the pregnant women, mothers and babies for building a healthy nation.
The chief guest said the effective steps of the government like regular doses of Vitamin A to children have almost removed Vitamin A deficiency and reduced night blindness and prevalence of underweight children."
She stressed on better coordination among government departments and NGOs for successful implementation of the comprehensive nutrition services program to eliminate malnutrition of the people of all ages.
