SHARIATPUR, June 07, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death sentence and three others to life-term imprisonment for killing a girl after rape in Damudya upazila of the district in 2020.

Judge of Shariatpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Shapon Kumar Sarker handed down the verdict to Babu Chowkidar (got death sentence) , 25, Jewel Khan, 19, Faruk Sarder, 22 and Tanvir Hossain Shamim, 22. They were the residents at different villages in Damudya Upazila.

The court also fined each of the convicts, who were awarded life-term imprisonment, Tk 2 lakh. If they fail to pay the amount, they will serve six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution on October 21 in 2020 the girl went missing at the village Kulkuri in evening. Later, her body was recovered the next day in a canal at the village.

Following the rape and murder, her father filed a case with Damudya Thana. Police pressed the charge sheet on October 22 in 2021 accusing the four convicts.
