GOPALGANJ, June 6, 2023 (BSS) - A man was killed and his two children were injured in explosion of a rice mill boiler at Manorama Rice Mill in Haridaspur Ferry Ghat area under Sadar upazila of the district early this morning of today.

The deceased was identified as Noor Islam Molla, 45, a resident of Haridaspur Purbapara village of the upazila. His wife Nipa Begum, 25, has been working at the rice mill for a long time.

The seriously injured children are Romana, 11, and Mostakim, 5.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Javed Masud said that at night the woman worker of the rice mill was sleeping in the room next to the boiler of the rice mill with her two children and her husband. When the rice mill boiler suddenly exploded around 5am, the wall of the house broke and Nurul Islam died on the spot and two children were seriously injured.

On information, fire service members rescued the injured and sent them to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital. Later, when their condition deteriorated, they were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, he said.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Jabed Masud said the cause of the explosion could not be known immediately.

The body of Noor Islam Molla was sent to Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
